How much does a new central AC cost in the Twin Cities?
Every home is different, so a new AC is quoted in your home after a free assessment. Value 14 to 16 SEER2, high-efficiency 17 to 20 SEER2 and premium variable-speed 20+ SEER2 systems are all available, and a furnace and AC bundle is quoted as one job. The quote covers equipment and installation together, before any work starts.
What is included in the installation?
A load calculation to size the system, removal and disposal of the old equipment, the new condenser, lineset, and electrical connections, a refrigerant charge and leak check, full commissioning and performance test, thermostat setup, and all permits and inspections.
When should I replace my AC instead of repairing it?
When the unit is 12 to 15 years old or more, when it runs on R-22 refrigerant, when repair quotes are approaching replacement cost, or when it cannot keep up on hot days even after service. We give you both numbers and an honest recommendation.
Is a heat pump a better choice than a new AC?
Sometimes. A heat pump cools in summer and heats in the shoulder seasons from a single outdoor unit, often qualifies for utility rebates, and can pair with your gas furnace as a dual-fuel system. If your AC is due anyway, it is worth pricing both.
When is the best time to replace an AC?
The off-season. In spring or fall there is no emergency and no line, so the system gets sized properly and installed on your schedule. Emergency replacements in July cost more because you are paying for speed and whatever is in stock.
Does the GE warranty apply to AC installs?
Yes. Qualifying GE systems we install carry 12 years of parts and 12 years of labor coverage as part of our GE Elite Partner status.
